About the work

Sierra Leone: Incomplete (2026) is part of Linda Burris Webster's Cartographica series, in which maps are transformed into intricate sculptural forms before being photographed.

The map of Sierra Leone is reshaped into a series of curved, intertwining forms that appear to reach towards one another without ever becoming complete. The open-ended composition suggests interrupted journeys, uncertainty and the challenges of rebuilding, offering a possible reflection on the country's complex history of conflict and recovery.

Through the contrast between the fluid movement of the sculpture and its unfinished appearance, Linda invites us to consider the fragility of stability and the lasting effects of upheaval on individual lives. The work reminds us that a country's story cannot be fully understood through its geographical boundaries alone.
