About the work

Quarry reflects Christina Fedyk’s interest in constructed landscapes, fragmented forms and the physical process of building an image through layers.

Working with monoprint and mixed media, Fedyk develops the surface through repeated printing, obscuring and reworking. Earlier marks remain visible beneath later interventions, giving the work a sense of depth and accumulated history.

Here, strong black forms cut across a pale, weathered ground, while a muted area of earthy colour sits beneath. The composition suggests structures, machinery or excavated forms without resolving into a literal landscape.

Like the process of quarrying itself, the image feels shaped through both addition and removal. Quarry emerges from this tension, with marks uncovered, interrupted and rebuilt until the composition finds its final balance.
