Azure Drift continues Richard Whadcock’s exploration of atmosphere, memory and landscape through layered oil paint. Soft turquoise forms gather across a pale, weathered ground, interrupted by fine linear marks and small flashes of red and rust.

The composition shifts between openness and density, with forms appearing to float, overlap and dissolve into the surface. Traces of drawing and revision remain visible, giving the work a sense of movement and depth.

Rather than describing a fixed place, the painting suggests sensation and space, allowing fragments of colour and mark-making to emerge gradually as the eye moves across the work.
