About the work
Japan: Rising Tides is part of Linda Burris Webster's Cartographica series, in which maps are transformed into intricate sculptural forms before being photographed.
The map of Japan is cut into delicate strips, woven and twisted into a flowing, almost wave-like composition. The shifting forms evoke the power of water and the vulnerability of island nations, inviting reflection on the relationship between geography, nature and the changing environment.
