About the work
Ukraine: Flight Paths is part of Linda Burris Webster's Cartographica series, in which maps are transformed into intricate sculptural forms before being photographed.
Created in response to the war in Ukraine, the map is folded into a complex arrangement of sharp, angular forms, reflecting the upheaval, conflict and uncertainty experienced by its people. The fragmented composition also questions the apparent objectivity of maps, reminding us that geographical boundaries can never fully convey the human stories unfolding within them.
