About the work
Old Grid reflects Christina Fedyk’s interest in repetition, structure and the way ordered systems change through the process of making.
Built through layers of monoprint and mixed media, the surface is repeatedly worked, obscured and reworked. Earlier marks remain visible beneath later layers, creating a worn, almost excavated quality.
A loose grid runs through the composition, punctuated by darker blocks, lines and irregular marks. The underlying structure is clear but never rigid. Elements shift in weight and alignment, allowing the pattern to feel accumulated rather than precisely constructed.
There is a tension between order and erosion throughout the work. Old Grid feels like a structure that has been used, altered and weathered over time, with its history retained in the surface.
