About the work
Float reflects Christina Fedyk’s interest in balance, space and the way individual forms relate to one another across a surface.
Built through layers of oil-based ink on paper, the work retains the physical traces of its making. Marks are pressed, lifted, obscured and reworked, leaving subtle shifts in tone and texture visible beneath the final image.
Dark rectangular forms and loosely drawn circles appear suspended across the pale ground, connected by faint lines and incidental marks. Some feel weighted, others barely anchored, creating a tension between solidity and movement.
The composition has an openness that allows the eye to move between each element. Nothing feels entirely fixed. Forms seem to hover, drift and settle temporarily, giving Float its sense of quiet movement and space.
