About the work

Data Transfer reflects Christina Fedyk’s interest in repetition, structure and the traces left through the process of making.

Working through layered monoprint and mixed-media techniques, Fedyk builds the surface gradually. Geometric forms, grids and repeated marks emerge, disappear and reappear, with scratches, uneven edges and shifts in tone allowing the history of the process to remain visible.

Here, a compact arrangement of symbols sits within a largely pale, weathered surface. The forms suggest buttons, screens or fragments of information, introducing the language of technology without resolving into a specific object.

There is a balance between order and uncertainty throughout the work. Familiar shapes are reduced to marks and patterns, leaving Data Transfer somewhere between diagram, object and abstraction
